No one wants to see their child laying in a hospital bed. When this unfortunate circumstance becomes a reality, many Tuscaloosa County residents choose Children's of Alabama in Birmingham.

To show support and care for children and families who find themselves at the country's third-largest pediatric hospital, the Tuscaloosa County Farmers Federation donated $2,000 to Children's of Alabama.

City of Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox has appointed Mark Fields as city clerk, effective Sept. 5.

Students all over Tuscaloosa are back in class now, but it's still summer - and with that, comes hot temperatures and the need to cool off - often, with a sweet treat. Sixth grade students of Holy Spirit Catholic School have making ice cream down to a science.

Children establish eating habits as early as two years old!  At Head Start/Early Head Start programs, we partner with families to build healthy eating habits early; one way to do this is to serve meals family-style. Eating family-style meals is a great way to introduce healthy foods, model healthy behaviors and provide opportunities for nutrition education.

Meet this week's Humane Society of West Alabama's Pet of the Week: Cannon! He is a 2 to 3-year-old male dachshund mix with a beautiful, reddish brown, smooth coat on his long body and short legs. He is small and full grown, weighing only 18 pounds.

The upcoming fall 2017 Bama Art House Film Series has been announced. The series features six screenings at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa, with the first scheduled for August 22.

A program of The Arts Council of Tuscaloosa, this series will feature drama, comedy, action, and a documentary. The lineup will conclude with the Manhattan Short Film Festival.

11 junior tennis players who regularly train at NorthRiver Yacht Club participated in the Alabama Junior State Closed Tennis Tournament in Montgomery, Alabama Saturday, July 29 and Tuesday, August 1.
