The Tuscaloosa County School System is excited to announce the new Holt High School will open for its first day of classes on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Although the current timeline called for the school to open in January 2019, in a release, TCSS officials said construction has moved at a pace that will allow for an earlier opening date.

It’s that time of year again - time for ghosts, goblins, witches, and plenty of treats. Halloween in Tuscaloosa is always a busy time, and this year is no exception. If you’re looking for some spooky fun, here’s a round-up of some of the best our area has to offer.

The Alabama men's and women's basketball teams officially welcomed in the 2018-19 campaign with a bang on Monday night when they hosted the fourth annual Tide Tipoff presented by Supe Store. The Crimson Tide took the floor in front of a buzzing crowd in Coleman Coliseum for a night full of competition, entertainment, and prizes.

Shelton State Community College will host the seventh Shelton’s BEST Robotics Competition on Friday and Saturday, October 26 and 27. 

Twenty-six schools from West Alabama will compete at the 2018 event. This year’s theme, “Current Events,” will highlight the impact pollution has on the ocean and the planet. In addition to creating preventative strategies, teams are required to create a robotic prototype that will tackle ocean floor clean-up.

Sunshine Artist Magazine's annual report, 200 Best, named the Kentuck Festival of the Arts as number five in the nation in the category of classic and contemporary craft shows. The 47th Annual Kentuck Festival is set for Oct. 20-21.

Meet Zora and Sweet Pea: This bonded pair have been together for 14 years - since they were in the womb! Zora and Sweet Pea are this week's Humane Society of West Alabama's Pets of the Week.

The City of Tuscaloosa will host the third annual ‘Tech-or-Treat’ night on Tuesday, Oct. 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Gateway Innovation and Discovery Center, located at 2614 University Blvd East.

The University of Alabama’s Sonic Frontiers concert series will present its first concert of the 2018-2019 season on Tuesday, October 30th at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theatre. Alloy Orchestra will perform an original score to Sergei Eisenstein’s first full-length feature film, “Strike” (1925). The public is invited to attend this free event.
