Lake Living: Sometimes, You Just Need to Love Yourself

February marks the season of love. On that note, when is the last time you wrote yourself a sweet, juicy letter about how great you are? No? Why not?

We do things for other people all the time. Sometimes, we get down in the dumps, beat ourselves up, and just can't seem to muster the strength to do it all.

This month, in the name of love for those around us, why don't we nurture ourselves a little bit?

Here are some great ways to get a fresh start as we get into the second month of 2020.

  • Set your alarm to a favorite song. Some mornings, it's praise. Other days, it’s Olivia Newton John singing through the Alexa app. Mix it up.
  •
  • Start your day a tad earlier. This way, you can have “me” time before the household awakens. Are you a night owl, like me? Some of the best nights in December were me alone with my records and the lights twinkling on the tree while everyone else was sound asleep. Honor your own body clock (when you can).
  •
  • Soak a while and relax. Lock the bathroom door and take that bubble bath you’ve been itching to enjoy. No rubber ducks or baby toys allowed. Just you, some soft music, a candle, and anything that smells great. You have earned it.
  •
  • Cull some stuff. I say this to myself often. I love mementos; I am visual. But this year, I am purging to make room for the great things coming this year.

Exciting news: Some friends and I are beginning the new Women's Support group we call Women with Momentum to help Tuscaloosa gals of all ages and stages keep the self-love train rolling. Want to join? Give me a shout. We start the week of Valentine's Day. We’ll meet from 12-1:30 p.m. on Tuesdays for about 8 weeks.

Give yourself a big hug. And remember: This is your year to shine – inside and out.

Happy Valentine's Day,

Allison
