Business Spotlight: Nathan Park, Executive Director of Trade Partner Exchange

Druid City Living recently talked with Nathan Park, the executive director of Trade Partner Exchange, a trade/barter organization that is expanding into Tuscaloosa. Park is in this week’s DCL Business Spotlight. Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences with us.

Name:  Nathan Park

Title:  Executive Director, Trade Partner Exchange

Current city of residence? Birmingham

Family? Dee (wife); Austin, 21 yrs.; Nelson, 19 yrs.; Carson, 17 yrs.; Amelia, 14 yrs.

What is your educational background? Bachelor of Science, University of Montevallo

Where did you grow up? Birmingham

What was your first job? I worked on a commercial farm in Poland, Ohio.

Why did you choose your profession? I’ve always been a small business owner/advocate.  I saw Trade Partner Exchange as a great resource to help local businesses be more profitable.  I consider it a big honor to earn a living helping others.

In 10 years you’ll be…? Still married to my first love, Dee. And, running a successful Trade Exchange in Tuscaloosa and beyond.

What’s the first thing you do when you get to the office? First, I give my day, time and energy to God.  Then, like the rest of the world, I grab a cup of coffee and check e-mails. I’ve learned to take the time to review the previous day, prioritize the current day ahead, make my to-do list and forge ahead with a positive attitude.

What’s a hot topic in your industry? How to help business owners think “TRADE/BARTER FIRST” instead of spending cash.

What’s the most influential book you’ve read, and how did it influence your career? I’m an avid self-help reader so it would be hard to choose just one. Success Magazine has great snippets of inspiration.  But I would say one of the best books that truly shaped my role as a leader is 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell.

Number one item on your bucket list? Take a month’s vacation and travel out West.

What’s the first website you check in the morning? to check and review the trade/barter transactions in our private trade-bank system.

If you had to choose another career, what would it be? A successful professional musician.

What’s your guiding business principle? To have high integrity in everyday decisions, policies and procedures so that we are perceived as a company which always chooses to do the right thing.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Never stop learning.

What keeps you up at night? Wrestling with “life matters” that don’t have an easy answer.

What’s your hidden talent? I play the guitar and sing.

What’s your favorite local restaurant? Archibald’s BBQ.

What’s your favorite local or professional sports team? The University of Alabama Crimson Tide!
