Senior students in the Tuscaloosa County School System have already participated in virtual graduation ceremonies. Now, they will be able to receive their diplomas during graduation celebrations in person.

TCSS Superintendent Dr. Walter Davie has announced that graduation ceremonies for over 1200 students from the system’s six high schools will be held on the school's ball fields on Tuesday, June 23, and Thursday, June 25.

Davie said the summer graduation ceremonies for the TCSS Class of 2020 will be held in compliance with state health guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic, cautioning that things may look quite different from normal graduations. He said planning is ongoing for the TCSS ceremonies.

Other major school systems have held in-person graduation ceremonies, with limits on how many family members can come to watch – and those who did were distanced from one another. Masks have also been distributed to every senior participating, and students were spread out across high school football fields.
