Banding Together: Local Students Support Teacher Battling Cancer Laurie Mitchell

When Holy Spirit High School faculty member Tracey Raines was diagnosed with cancer, the faculty and students stepped up to help their beloved teacher and coach out with a fundraiser to help pay Ms. Raines’ medical expenses by selling bracelet bands with the inscription “Running with Coach Raines” on it and “Pray for Tracey.”

Raines is a middle and high school teacher, and she coaches the Holy Spirit cross country and track teams. Everyone has been wearing their bracelets to come together in solidarity and to be reminded to pray for Coach Raines and those who are ill.

During morning prayer in the gym, the student body and staff, while wearing their bracelet bands, gathered around Coach Raines to pray together with her as she starts cancer treatment. The girls’ softball team wore their bands while away at the state championship games.
