Northridge High School Teacher Wins International Teacher Excellence Award Dr. Brenda Gibson

Dr. Brenda Gibson was recognized as one of only 40 teachers worldwide to earn the Teacher Excellence Award at the recent annual conference of the International Technology and Engineering Educator Association (ITEEA).

Dr. Gibson is employed with the Tuscaloosa City School System at Northridge High School, where she teaches business marketing education.

The Teacher Excellence Award, sponsored by ITEEA and Goodheart-Wilcox Publisher, is one of the highest honors given to technology and engineering classroom teachers. It is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession and students. Teachers from all over the United States and around the world compete for this honor.

Dr. Gibson was recognized at the second general session of the ITEEA conference, where award plaques and pins were presented. In a news release, Gibson said she is dedicated to improving academic mastery, building 21st Century workplace skills, fostering student interest in STEM careers and closing the achievement gaps.

Gibson is also a two-time recipient of the Carl Perkins Community Service Award (2015 and 2018), given by the Alabama Association for Career and Technical Education. The award recognizes educators who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in programs and activities that promote community involvement.
