McKendrick Resigns as TCS Superintendent

The search is on for a new Tuscaloosa City Schools superintendent after this week’s resignation of Dr. Paul McKendrick. The resignation came just one week after McKendrick was placed on medical leave. His tenure will end on August 5.

McKendrick, who began his tenure in September of 2011, cited the loss of his brother (who died in December) as the reason for the medical leave. In his resignation letter, read at this week’s Tuscaloosa City School Board meeting, he also said he hopes to “recover from this loss” and spend more time with his family, while focusing on “other interests.”

Tuscaloosa City School Board President Lee Garrison is quoted as saying that the board could begin the search for a new superintendent when it meets on Tuesday.
