A person can bleed to death in five minutes from a traumatic injury. Bystanders’ actions to quickly stop the bleeding can save a life before professional emergency responders arrive.

“Service to Man” is a drama that chronicles the bond between a pair of medical students – one white, one black – at Meharry Medical College, a small school in Tennessee, during the turbulence and violence of the civil rights movement in 1968. It was also shot entirely in the Tuscaloosa area.
The Community Foundation of West Alabama has awarded the second annual Elois Zeanah Endowed Scholarship to two local students. Price McGiffert, Jr. of the University of Alabama and Valentyna Trull of Judson College are the 2017 recipients.

It’s no secret the biggest rivalry in the state of Alabama exists on and off the football field. However, every year students from both Auburn University and The University of Alabama partner with their local communities to use that rivalry for a good cause.
The American Red Cross of Shelton State is holding a hurricane relief drive through Friday, Nov. 10. Donations will be included in “comfort kits.” They’ll be delivered to victims of the recent hurricanes.
