On Nov. 14, retired Army Colonel Glen Smith was awarded the Leroy McAbee Distinguished Service Award. The award is presented annually to a military veteran in Alabama for community service, including volunteerism and philanthropy.

The award, sponsored by Tuscaloosa Tourism & Sports, was presented to Smith during a Wreath and Honor ceremony at the University of Alabama’s Ferguson Center. Smith has multiple leadership roles in the Exchange Club and Foundation of Tuscaloosa.

“The McAbee Award serves to demonstrate that Tuscaloosa is a very veterans-friendly city and that veterans have an essential role to play, contributing to the vitality of the community,” Smith said.
