Fourth Annual Tuscaloosa Runs for Veterans 5K Set for Nov. 9

04 Nov 2019

Runners throughout the area will be lacing up their running shoes for a charity event benefiting local veterans’ organizations. The Fourth Annual Tuscaloosa Runs for Veterans 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the McAbee Center at the VA Medical Center. All proceeds from the event will benefit Tuscaloosa military organizations.

Hosted by the Veterans Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama and sponsored by Tuscaloosa Tourism & Sports, the event aids local charities including the Tuscaloosa Veterans Memorial Park, the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center Homeless Shelter, and the University of Alabama/Shelton State Community College Emergency Relief Fund, which provides assistance to veteran students in dire financial need.

“Holding a Tuscaloosa Track Club Grand Prix 5K Run/Walk the Saturday before Veterans Day is a great way to honor the holiday, and to provide financial support for these critically important organizations,” said Randy Gelwix, Chairman of the Chamber’s Veterans Affairs Council. “We encourage everyone to come out and take part in this worthwhile event.”

Participants can pre-register on Eventbrite for $20 or register onsite for $25. Registration for Tuscaloosa Track Club members is $15. Registration for the Fourth Annual Tuscaloosa Runs for Veterans 5K starts at 7 a.m., and the run begins at 8 a.m.
