The forum is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Greater Tuscaloosa, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), and The University of Alabama Retirees Association (TUARA). This event will be held in the Rast Room of the Bryant Conference Center on the UA campus from 6:30-8:15 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
"The forum for the upcoming election gives the public an opportunity to hear candidates for contested seats in the Tuscaloosa County offices open this year and for the candidates to speak and to participate in a question and answer forum," said Kim Bailey, forum chair.
Each candidate will be given a one-minute opening statement. Afterward, the LWV moderator will ask each candidate prepared questions, allowing two minutes to respond. Written questions from the audience will be taken if time permits.
The following candidates have been invited to attend: Laura Gregory and Rob Robertson for probate judge; Deborah Fowler and Leigh Ann Fair for tax assessor, and Angie Achterhof and Margaria Bobo for circuit clerk.
The League has a strict policy of not allowing political signs, buttons, flyers or other forms on electioneering within the forum venue.
The League of Women Voters, founded in 1920, is a nonpartisan organization committed to the informed and active participation of citizens in government. Open to both men and women, the LWV does not support political parties or candidates. This forum is funded in part by a grant from the League of Women Voters of Alabama Education Fund.
