Tuscaloosa Native Larry Snyder received the 2018 Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Veteran of the Year Award at the Alabama State Convention of the VVA.

The award is presented to a VVA member whose leadership and community service improves the life of veterans.

Snyder is the president of the Tuscaloosa VVA Chapter 301. Under his leadership, his chapter has collected and donated over $40,000 to veterans during the past two years.

Last Christmas, VVA Chapter 301 conducted a food program that benefitted 275 needy veterans and their families. His group donated countless hours to help veterans’ families in distress. They supported the American Legion Honor Guard, a veteran organization that provides military honors to deceased veterans. VVA Chapter 301 supported the Army Junior ROTC program at Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa.

The award will be formally presented to Snyder on November 11, at the Annual Veterans Day Parade in Birmingham.
