The Word Community Church, in partnership with the Association of the U.S. Army, West/Central Alabama chapter, hosted its first Military Appreciation Breakfast on Saturday, June 30, at their church in Northport.

Attending the event were members of the American Legion Post 123 Honor Guard, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6022, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 302, the Association of the United States Army, and many more.

Over 150 veterans, as well as their families and friends, were enthusiastically welcomed by Church Elder Rob Moore. Moore acknowledged their service to our country and thanked them for their sacrifices.

“The church has done a great job in recognizing the veterans. I am proud to be here,” said Vietnam Veteran Stanley Blevins.

Pastor Scott Willmore, a former Army Veteran, told the audience about his personal experience during his 10 years of active service and numerous deployments.

Caroline Gibson, 13, did a great rendition of the national anthem. She is an eighth grader at Echols Middle School, and the daughter of Scott and Suzanne Gibson of Northport.

Army National Guard Captain Phil Duke provided the entertainment.
