Alabama Primary: Walt Maddox Wins Democratic Nomination for Governor

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox defeated former Alabama Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb to win the Democratic nomination for governor. Maddox will face off against incumbent Republican Governor Kay Ivey, who easily bested her opponents to secure her party’s nomination.

The general election will be held on November 6.

In other local election results, Tuscaloosa County Emergency Management Agency Director Rob Robertson defeated former Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ted Sexton in the Republican primary race for Tuscaloosa County Probate Judge – a seat held by the retiring Hardy McCollum, who was also president of the Tuscaloosa County Commission.

Robertson will face Democrat Laura Gregory in the Nov. 6 general election.
