James Hollis and his fiancé, Melinda Howard, wanted to do something great for kids with special needs in the community. The couple, owners of H&H Petting Zoo in Coker, came up with an idea: a petting zoo, allowing children of all ages to get up close and personal with animals.

On Saturday, May 19, their vision came to fruition. Unfortunately, Howard wasn’t there – she passed away recently after a battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, a rare brain disorder. Still, the day was a joyful one for all involved. The petting zoo was held near The Lee Anna Grace Cunningham Field at Sokol Park North (Miracle League Field).
