Local Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit has New Leader J Patrick Feighery

Ward W. McFarland of Tuscaloosa has been selected to Lead US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 8 5, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, for calendar year 2018, he succeeds Lyn Spencer who has served as Flotilla Commander since 2016.

Mr. McFarland has been a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1995 and has previously served as a Division Commander and president of the Past Division Commanders’ Association. Flotilla Commander McFarland’s awards include Coast Guard, Auxiliary Achievement Award, Auxiliary Commandant’s Letter of Commendation, Presidential Unit Citation and the Sustained Service Award. Mr. McFarland currently holds qualifications as a Boat Crew Coxswain, Instructor and Vessel Examiner.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian volunteer component of the US Coast Guard; its primary mission is Recreational Boating Safety.  This mission is carried out by conducting boating safety classes, performing safety patrols on local rivers and lakes and conducting safety inspections of recreational boats. Membership is open to all citizens 17 years of age and older. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 8 5 has been active in the Tuscaloosa area since 1992.
