Humane Society’s Pet of the Week: Meet Juliette

Humane Society’s Pet of the Week: Meet Juliette Humane Society of West Alabama

This pretty girl is Juliette, a 9-year-old German Shepherd/corgi mix. She is this week’s Humane Society of West Alabama’s Pet of the Week!

Juliette is smaller than she looks, weighing around 27 pounds. She is like a mini German Shepherd, so there is something in her that is keeping her small – maybe corgi or terrier. Juliette has a tan with traces of black really thick coat. She does have a thick undercoat, and she will need brushing to keep from shedding.

Juliette was pulled from our local animal shelter, where she had been turned in as a stray. The HSWA adopted her out over 8 1/2 years ago when she was about 6-8 months old. She was in a loving home and well-cared for. Unfortunately, she was returned to us because the financial situation for the family had drastically changed and they could not keep her anymore.

Here is what the family had to say about Juliette: "Juliette is a great guard dog; you always know when someone is approaching your home. She’s very protective of her 'family.' She learned how to sit, lay and shake right after we adopted her but due to her strong-willed nature, it took her a total of 2-1/2 years to be completely house broken. She never has accidents. In fact, she will let you know when she needs to go outside. She’s friendly but insists on being the dominant dog between her and a second dog, but she doesn’t attack. She has been known to 'snap; at a younger child twice in the 8-1/2 years we’ve had her, so she would be a better fit for either an older person, a single person, or a family with older children. Juliette loves being outside but she is a runner and climbs over chain link fences. She respects the family property and does not chew up anything except her food, Juliette is good being alone or being with people. She has been very healthy through her 8-1/2 years with us."

Juliette is a smart dog and is ready to be back in a home environment. She will require a privacy fence but is not to be an outside dog only. She is used to being inside with her family. Mature dogs are great dogs to take on since they are over the puppy stages of chewing and don't have such a high energy level. Juliette has a nice energy level and would enjoy walks and play time but then is ready to settle down and chill out with you. She has many more years ahead of her to enjoy with a lucky owner!

Juliette is house trained. Juliette is up to date on her vet care, spayed, heartworm negative and microchipped. She is on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Please call 205-554-0011 or visit humanesocietyofwa.org to request an appointment to meet the available animals.
