Tropical Storm Watch in Effect for Tuscaloosa County for TS Nate

The National Weather Service on Friday afternoon issued a tropical storm watch for several Central and West Alabama counties. This watch includes Tuscaloosa County.

According to weather service officials, Tropical Storm Nate is expected to have potentially significant impacts across much of the region. Sustained winds of 25-35 mph may begin on Sunday in the Tuscaloosa area, with conditions worsening as the storm heads northward. Wind gusts could reach 40-60 miles per hour. Heavy rain is also expected.

From the NWS update on Friday afternoon, Oct. 6, specifically for Tuscaloosa:

The City of Tuscaloosa is in an enhanced risk area for wind. We can expect the potential for:

  • Wind gusts 40-60 mph
  • Scattered power outages
  • Numerous trees down

The latest local forecast calls for 1-3 inches of rain, with locally higher amounts.
