Alden Phillips began her dance training locally, at the age of 2. She danced in Tuscaloosa Community Dancers productions through high school, and she also toured with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, performing the role of “Clara.” Phillips left Tuscaloosa to pursue her dance career at the State University of New York at Purchase, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Dance Performance and a minor in Arts Management. She performed at New York Live Arts for two seasons with the Purchase Dance Company. Phillips has participated in several premiere dance programs, and most recently, she went on tour with Utah’s Odyssey Dance Theater for their Thriller production.
Phillips recently moved home to Tuscaloosa to pursue her passion for teaching. She is an accomplished dancer and teacher, and is thrilled to return to the area to work with local dancers.
“I am so looking forward to working with an organization that meant so much to me growing up. Nutcracker performances were pivotal in my performance training and taught me to bring to life a story loved by so many,” Phillips said. “It is exciting for me to experience it from the other side and hopefully give some of the joy that I was given to the growing dancers in the community.”
As for plans for The Nutcracker, this year’s performances are scheduled for Dec. 7-10 at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa. Auditions are planned for Sunday, Aug. 13 at Clark Hall on the University of Alabama campus.
