On the evening of November 18th, NorthRiver Yacht Club was transformed into “A Night in Havana” to benefit the children of our community in a very special way.

The DCH Foundation’s 39th annual Lucy Jordan Ball entertained nearly 300 guests with dinner and entertainment. Cocktail hour featured special appearances by “Desi Arnaz” and “Carmen Miranda.” “The Main Attraction Band” entertained into the late night hours with lively music and fun.

Thanks to the efforts of this year’s ball chairs, Mrs. Michael Reilly, Mrs. Jason Bearden, and Mrs. James Leitner, The DCH Foundation will be able to provide the funds to hire a Child Life Specialist for the DCH Health System’s emergency departments. This person will be uniquely trained on how children experience and react to pain and fear. They will also bring invaluable skills and training to make DCH’s emergency staff even better at caring for the hundreds of kids who come through our doors each year. This is especially important, because nearly 20 percent of all our emergency visits are children.

Decorations Chairperson Mrs. Leslie Fowler’s vision of “A Night in Havana” also featured beautiful photographs from Jim Harrison III, in a series entitled “Beautiful Decay, Visions of Cuba.” These photos were taken on a recent trip to the island. In addition to the Harrison Family, Platinum Benefactors for the evening included Bryant Bank, Harrison Construction Company, Mercedes-Benz US International, Aspire Physical Recovery Centers, The Radiology Clinic, NHS Management, and Southland Benefit Solutions/ FNB of Central Alabama. Gold Benefactors included JMF, John Plott Company, Miers Pass Philanthropy, and Neonatology Associated of Tuscaloosa.

The DCH Foundation wishes to thank all of the Benefactors for their steadfast and committed support through the last 29 years. With the help of the community, The DCH Foundation Ball has put more than $3 Million to work on bringing excellent healthcare to the people of West Alabama.
