West Alabama Christmas Parade Moved to Thursday; New Route Featured

All the rain Tuscaloosa has seen in recent days, including on Monday, has resulted in a decision to move the 41st Annual West Alabama Christmas Parade to Thursday, Dec. 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Becky Booker with Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority said in addition, the tree lighting ceremony on the steps of the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse has been canceled. Booker did add that the Grand Marshal Reception would be held as originally scheduled.

“All parade line up procedures, times, and rules will still apply on Thursday,” Booker said.

The parade route has also been changed. In a statement, PARA said:

Parade entries will line up as originally planned starting and finishing in their original locations. The revised route will turn east on 7th Street, continue to 21 Avenue traveling north and then turning west to finish on University Blvd. at 19th Avenue. Spectators and patrons of downtown Tuscaloosa are advised that Government Plaza will now be an excellent viewing location.

This year’s parade theme is “Home for the Holidays.” The 2016 Grand Marshals are Sandra Baker, a charter member of the Parent Resource Institute for Drug Education in Tuscaloosa (PRIDE) and David Gay, the pastor of the Beulah Baptist Church and coordinator of the Homeless Program at the Tuscaloosa Veterans Administration Hospital.

This is an updated map of the new route:
