St. Martin’s Day is a beloved festival in German-speaking countries. And this year, Tuscaloosa is celebrating with a special St. Martin’s Day parade on Thursday, Nov. 9, at Tuscaloosa Academy.

The American Red Cross of Shelton State is holding a hurricane relief drive through Friday, Nov. 10. Donations will be included in “comfort kits.” They’ll be delivered to victims of the recent hurricanes.

Head Start/Early Head Start, a division of Community Service Programs of West Alabama (CSP), Inc. follows the national requirement of reserving and serving 10 percent of its enrollment to include children with disabilities; including but not limited to physical, hearing, visual, emotional, speech and health impairments.
Head Start staff work with local school districts and community agencies to make sure that the special needs of all children are met. Within 45 days of enrollment into the program, each child will complete developmental, speech and language, hearing and vision screenings.
More than 4,400 eighth graders will get a hands-on look at high-paying jobs in West Alabama this week, as Worlds of Work, a one-of-a-kind career expo will be held October 12 and 13 at Shelton State Community College’s Martin Campus. High school students are also invited to attend WOW Varsity with their parents, allowing them to explore career opportunities.
Norman A. Stillman College in Tuscaloosa celebrated the grand opening of its Veterans Resource Center on Thursday, Aug. 24. The new center, under the leadership of director Marilyn Hill, will provide a variety of services to Stillman’s student veterans, including academic advising and referrals.
