Bolta Celebrates Grand Opening of New Production Plant in Tuscaloosa Bolta US

The Bolta Group, a German-based company, announced the grand opening of its new production plant, Bolta US, in Tuscaloosa on July 21. State and local officials joined members of Bolta’s global management team to celebrate the completion of the company’s 200,000 square foot production facility located in the Tuscaloosa County Airport Industrial Park.

Bolta US has invested nearly $50 million in the new manufacturing facility, and will employ 350 individuals by the end of 2018. For the Grand Opening, Bolta US invited customers, suppliers and employees to join the ceremony on-site at the production plant. In the presence of Rep. Robert B. Aderholt, US House of Representatives, and Alabama Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield, approximately 200 guests from the U.S. and European countries were welcomed by Bolta US Managing Director and Vice President Johannes Carl, the German executive management of the sister company Bolta in Germany, and representatives from the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority (TCIDA).

Dara Longgrear, executive director of the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority, welcomed Bolta to the growing automotive community in Tuscaloosa.

“Bolta’s focus on technology, high quality and customer satisfaction is a wonderful fit for our existing international manufacturing community,” said Longgrear.

A member of the Purico Group since 1985, Bolta also welcomed representatives from its UK-based parent company. The Purico Group, founded in 1983, is named after its inspirational founder, Professor Nathu Puri CBE, who transformed a one-man consultancy into a global business spanning three continents. Bolta has advanced production facilities in Germany and Mexico. Due to the ongoing success, expansion plans for Bolta’s newest facility in Eastern Europe are in its final planning stages. Anil Puri, Chairman of the Purico Group, pointed out the importance of an increasing international approach.

“Internationalization is crucial to our development, since it is our ambition to be able to manufacture exactly where our customers need us,” Puri said. “This opening today is an important milestone for the company as a whole and will lead us to the next stages of our corporation’s history.”

Following a thorough selection process to decide on the best location for its NAFTA headquarters in 2014, Bolta’s goal is to increase its impact in the sector of components with advanced surface requirements.

"Alabama continues to grow its reputation as the new heart of American automotive production. This investment by Bolta into the Tuscaloosa and West Alabama economy solidifies and advances that reputation," said Rep. Aderholt.

“Companies like Bolta Werke are driving the robust growth that Alabama’s automotive manufacturing industry has been experiencing, which has created jobs and lifted communities across the state,” said Greg Canfield, secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce. “We have forged a strong relationship with Bolta, and we’ll continue to assist this top-notch company and its growing Alabama workforce.”

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox was also on hand to welcome the company to the area.

“Tuscaloosa is honored to be the new home of Bolta US," Maddox said. "In the past few years, from Germany to England, we built meaningful relationships and friendships that will create high paying jobs and a higher quality of life for the people of our community.“
