Now Open 

Urban Cookhouse, one of Tuscaloosa’s newest restaurants (1490 Northbank Pkwy) celebrated its Grand Opening Party on Jan. 12. The evening included food, beverages, and live music. The event also honored Fuller Goldsmith, a Tuscaloosa Academy seventh grader and aspiring chef who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when he was 3. A Reprieve for Women (14332 Hwy 69 South) celebrated its Open House with a ribbon cutting held on Jan. 12. A Reprieve for Women is a place for young women struggling with substance abuse and addiction which strives to create a spiritually sound environment that is positive, creative, caring, and fun. News and Accomplishments 

Capstone Bancshares, Inc. and Capstone Bank has announced that Steve Tucker is the new Chairman of the Board, replacing Julian “Buddy” Brackin, who retired effective Dec. 1. Tucker has been a director of the bank since its inception in 2007, serving most recently on the loan committee, as chairman of the audit committee and as a member of the executive committee.  

Home Charm Carpet & Flooring closed its doors in January. The business, which opened in 1945, was located in the Alberta City area of Tuscaloosa.    

NorthRiver Yacht Club has announced that Trey Aitken is their new food and beverage director. Aitken brings over 20 years of experience as owner, chef, and consultant in a variety of local and regional fine dining restaurants to NorthRiver. 

NorthRiver Yacht Club’s Special Events and Catering team was named a 2017 Couples’ Choice Award recipient by Wedding Wire. This award demonstrates a commitment to excellence, and is awarded to the top five percent of wedding professionals on Wedding Wire. Team members include Hannah Petty, Traci Lawrence and Chef Billy Kistler

The United Way of West Alabama’s Young Leaders Society has announced the honorees of the Inaugural West Alabama Young Leaders Awards (WAYLAs): Eric Heslop (Cadence Bank), Anna Johnson (Hunt Refining), Patrick Hamner (Bryant Bank), Rodney Pelt, Sr. (Mind Changers) & Chris Brubeck (Nucor Steel). The awards will be presented during the YLS Kickoff & WAYLA Awards Luncheon on Thursday, Feb. 9 at Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Tuscaloosa.
