Fall in Tuscaloosa is remarkable sight. And in addition to the plethora of pumpkin spice lattes, and the stunning autumn colors beginning to burst from the trees, there are also some great Halloween destinations you don’t want to miss this month.

Whether you’re into the spooky frights – like a tour of Tuscaloosa’s most haunted places – or you just want to enjoy a crisp fall day picking pumpkins, these are some of the best places for families to enjoy fall fun in the area.

On Tuesday, July 4th, Tuscaloosa kicks off its seventh annual Celebration on the River event. Free family activities, a performance by the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra and a fireworks display over the Black Warrior River will be featured.

Season’s greetings! We hope you all had a lovely holiday – now get ready for another one. New Year’s Day is almost here, and as we usher in 2017, these are a few of the events happening in and around the area.

Hard realities tend to hit us at the most inopportune times. Like your deciding another baby may be great, and, on the very same afternoon, you witness the biggest meltdown you’ve ever seen in Publix by a 25-pound bundle of Huggies with a pacifier? This happens a lot during the holidays. Reality is amplified. Be prepared this year.

Not surprisingly, this week’s community calendar is a little on the light side. Given that this is the week leading up to Christmas Day, fewer events are being held – but that does *not* mean great opportunities aren’t around for family holiday fun. Check out Holidays on the River – go ice skating! Or visit the Tuscaloosa Barnyard’s Country Christmas and enjoy a lovely festive hayride and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. You can also check out a live nativity pageant in Northport!

Whatever you do this week, we hope it is relatively stress-free and enjoyable. Have a wonderful holiday!

It’s been a busy year for The Actor’s Charitable Theatre (ACT), and the group is closing out 2016 in grand fashion, presenting the holiday classic “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at the Bama Theatre, Dec. 16-19.

“This is a funny and heartwarming tale that not only entertains, but reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas,” said Joey Lay, the artistic director and one of the original founders of The ACT. “’The Best Christmas Pageant Ever’ will feature an all-inclusive cast, highlighting Tuscaloosa’s talent of all abilities.”

This week’s calendar is loaded with excellent opportunities to enjoy everything our area has to offer.  And if you are still not in the holiday spirit, you will be: Just go check out The ACT’s hilarious production of “The Best Christmas Ever,” or enjoy Theatre Tuscaloosa’s stellar “A Christmas Carol.” The Tuscaloosa Barnyard is doing “A Country Christmas,” and several other area businesses are holding holiday-themed events.

Ho ho ho!
